Closing Time

Aaaand the Don is back working from home which means we now have a desk back in our bedroom:

A bigger and more permanent desk than the collapsible one we cleared out again not that long ago, and clearly an office desk as opposed to the lovely wooden one we bought during COVID / pre-extention that he used during his original home-working stint (which is now my lovely desk in the extention).

Not that the Don hasn't worked from home since then.  I'm not sure actually when he started spending some work days back in the office, certainly not before September 2021, and even then he kept a desk at home...  Neither of his jobs post-COVID though have been based here in oor toon, and he's not actually had many day to day dealings with anyone in the office here, but due to the COVID clearout of staff and a change in company structure, and his pre-COVID position as Ops Manager, he still had a lovely office in the building, including a 'standing' desk and keys to the base.  Which made it a pretty sweet deal - company when wanted, a closed office door when not, an enjoyable 10 minute walk from home, and home-working when he would rather.

But whenever it was, maybe a year go, when he was pretty much back at the office full time, I decided enough was enough and I wanted my bedroom back, so I cleared away the desk and shoved the monitors and rest of the gubbins up the loft.  Of course, within a few weeks he actually needed to work from home because I was away somewhere, and he hates working from his laptop, so eventually we got the screens back out the loft and set him up in the toy room for those days he chose to / needed to / wanted to work from home.

Which was fine in practice and has worked grand for the last year or so... except 1. it's cold! 2. it's dark! and 3. that is where Toots spent most of ther fourth year studying.  So just as well we now have a big dining room table that can accommodate laptops and school books as well as dinner!

Anyway, when we found out the local office was closing permanently, we decided he'd need to move out of the toy room and the temporary (albeit pretty cool) desk, and reinstate himself back in our bedroom, thus freeing up the toy room for study and music practice and visitors again. He's pretty gutted he can't bring his standing desk home with him, but you know, ce la vie!

It is pretty sad though... 20+ years he's been based out of Harlaw Road with a lot of the same people, and it's not that he doesn't have a hot desk in Dyce should he want one, but still... most definitely the end of an era.
