T-minus 6 to Race Day
- Find pre-bought Pinewood Derby Car DIY kit and Race Day rules amongst our clutter.
- Search harder for rules.
- Email friend for rules (these are surprisingly important).
- Be surprised at the number of rules.
- Take apart DIY kit to see what's what.
- Look up internet for tricks of the trade - it's apparent these are needed.
- Realise this involves a lot more than you bargained for.
- Realise you don't have the right kind of sandpaper or sealer or arcrylic paint or know the 'right' way to polish the axle.
- Realise this is not a race for kids*, but really for their dads.
- Look up the internet more seriously.
- Be surprised at how serious this is, and how many tricks of the trade there are.
- Make a trip to Michaels for supplies.
- Stumble across a book dedicated to Pinewood Derby Car racing, and try and memorise as much as possible.
- Buy supplies.
- Head home and start.
- Realise you probably should just have bought that book.
- Think about heading to Hobby Lobby tomorrow, you know, just to see what they've got...
*since it is organised by AWANA.
