Go Tell It on the Mountain

Rather than one big Christmas bonanza, the kids at Midland Bible Church have been creating crafts and taking part in various activities to celebrate the Christmas season.

In November they created trivets that were auctioned off to raise money to fill Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes.  The kids filled over 140 boxes, and learned lots about serving others in need.  This here one is Tigers; we didn't win Lightning's trivet. Which was maybe the point, because every time we use these we are supposed to pray for the child whose hand print is on the back.

Last week the 3s (Giraffes) and 4s (Owls) also sang a couple of songs in church: Away in a Manger and Go Tell It On The Mountain.  Tiger was well hidden, but sang out loud and proud ne'ertheless.

After the service we all headed down to the old folks home (sorry, senior center) at the end of the street, where all the kids sang a number of songs.  The old folks seemed to enjoy it, but you know, you can't always tell...  They did like the wee Christmas cards and tree ornaments that the kids had made and handed out to them.

We all also enjoyed heading back to church for soup and hot chocolate after the singing.  It's just a shame the weather was too cold for the hay ride that was planned to take the kids to the senior center and back.

Anyway, today was the turn of the K-6th Graders singing Angels We Have Heard on High, Joy to the World and Hope is Born This Night.  Toots was well hidden in the second row, which I think she was more than pleased with.

It's amazing though how quickly kids can learn songs.  Whenever we hear Go Tell It on the Mountain on K-Love (which must have been released as a Christmas song at some point because we hear it quite often), you can always make out Lightning singing along from the back of the car...
