Chain Reaction

So I'm thinking that in future we'll give black henna a miss, as this is what Toots's hands looked like nine days post Egyptian henna:

Apparently black henna has para-phenylenediamine (PPD) in it which is used to darken the colour - unlike the brown henna that we often had without any problems in the Middle East (and actually neither Tiger nor I have actually been affected this time either).  The concentration of PPD in black henna has been found to exceed the regulated levels in most countries, and often kerosene or petrol is added to improve the uptake of colour.  Scary!  If it happens, an allergic reaction will take place 7-14 days after the first exposure, and leave a raised itchy reaction in the pattern of the tattoo.
