Now these are a pile of conkers:

| 337 of them, to be precise |
On iChum's advice (she being our tree, as well as our village, expert) we headed on a walk round Keithhall estate, which sits on the edge of our village, to pillage their two great horse chestnut trees. Of course it being over seven years since we last undertook this walk - actually last time we cycled it - we didn't do it quite right: instead of walking around the estate, we walked through the estate (the hall and servant quarters/stables are now made up of private houses so there is easy access, and surely now has to have some degree of access by the public...) and came across some gorgeous and grand beech trees, just perfect for climbing. And posing.
Then we got in trouble from two gentlemen with walking sticks, who promptly showed us the back gate which happened to be right slap, bang where the trees were. Result!
| The perfect husk - ripe enough to have just starting to split |
And there were a lot of conkers. I think next year I'm going to have to educate the kids on which conkers we want and which ones we leave behind, and maybe plan to pillage a week or two earlier, but for this year... Let the games begin...
