I'm not sure about elsewhere in Scotland, but up here in the North East, August = Autumn and definitely not Summer.
And if you were still on the fence about that yesterday because of the sun and warmth (and in fairness, the yellow leaves are a result of the lack of water and hot summer), both yesterday's wind and todays thunder, whirlwind and torrential tropical downpour should have firmly confirmed the change in season.
