Down That Road #eastdistrictopenwater

Down to Lochore we travelled today, not for the yearly June Aquathon that Joey has come to love, but for the East District Open Water Championships. In theory, an easy 1km swim. In practice, a wind and wave-battling, sea-sick enducing endurance race (and that was just how we felt as spectators all day ;)!

A beautiful looking day from inside the cafe!

Somewhere in there, in a blue cap with orange arms,
is our Joe

Utter relief at finishing

And then he had to do it all over again for the relay!

No, not quite. For the chain relay he only had to swim a shorter circuit of 250m (then the next person dropped out after 500m, the next after 750m, and the final swam four circuits totally 1km), and his Garioch A team came third over all - behind the UoA Performance Squad A, and Step Rock A, a St Andrew's based team with two current Scottish senior triathlon team members - so their team of a 15 year old, two 14 year olds and Joey did okay for themselves.

And though he was craving a hot chocolate post swims, the cafe was closed and we had to settle for a Mr Whippy. Darn it.
