We attended the trial run/briefing last Monday and only then did I appreciate how far 600m actually was to run: I mean we couldn't see the end from the start. They had to run 600m, cycle 1200m, then run 600m again back to the start, so basically run down the full length of the car park behind BISAD/Abu Dhabi University, cycle back up and down, and then run back up again.

Classic mistake of camera on video instead of photo.

Anyway, Toots was in the first heat, thanks to being in the youngest year and with an early surname, and thanks to being pretty good was also the first girl home. Overall she was the third placed girl in her year and didn't even seem too knackered by the end of it.
What was interestingly pointed out, by the swim coach, was that ten out of the twelve medallists were all part of the school swim-team, and actually next year the new "almost (?!) Olympic sized" outdoor pool will be finished so the duathlon is most likely going to be a triathlon. Me thinks those in the swim-team will have a distinct advantage with that one... Lets just hope they pick a warmer month than January.
