He went to Edinburgh University from 1963-1967 and obtained a degree in psychology before training as a science teacher. He moved to Kinclaven in Perth & Kinross with his mother and grandmother when his mother became the Headmistress of Kinclaven Primary School and he obtained a teaching post in Blairgowrie.
In 1970 he had a life changing experience when he went to Spain with Operation Mobilisation (OM) on his first evangelistic crusade. In 1972 he moved to Glenrothes but decided to join OM full-time in 1973 for 2 years. It was there he met his wife, Lore, and got married in 1975.
After living in Scotland for a year they moved to Cyprus where Dave worked as a science teacher and boarding house parent at the LOGOS School of English Education in Limassol. LOGOS was an English speaking Christian school that was also able to cater for internally displaced people after Turkey occupied the north of the island, and Lebanese refugees after war broke out in Lebanon.
Ingrid, Sonia and Martin were born there and Fiona in Germany during a transition year in 1984-5 where he sought the Lord about where to go next. In 1985 the family moved to Scotland where he worked at Queen Victoria School in Dunblane as a computing teacher. During their time there the last baby Kelling, Christina, arrived.
The children thrived growing up in the grounds of Queen Victoria School with access ot the swimming pool, games hall woods, burn and playing fields.
In 2000 Dave took early retirement and the family moved to Stirling. A short time later he obtained a flat in Fallin, a community he dearly love and felt part of.
In 2008 he became a member of Stirling Baptist Church and became actively involved in seemingly almost everything including XS (for seniors), Book Club, prayer triplet, and the befriending scheme.
He loved music and was thrilled to sing with Father's Song, a male voice Christian choir, as well as with the larger Praise Gathering choir. He was involved in Origin Scotland, and was an active member of the Association of Christian Teachers.
He loved to be outside, walking the hills and cycling everywhere, as well as leading his children and increasing number of grandchildren on many adventures.
In February 2015 he was diagnosed with a blood condition that reduced his activeness and resulted in painful side effects. He was admitted to Forth Valley Royal Hospital in mid-August, including a sting at the Renal Ward in the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Glasgow. An aggressive form of bladder cancer was discovered 6 weeks ago and due to his underlying blood condition it was not possible to undergo any further treatment. In his final week he was cared for at Strathcarron Hospital and late last Thursday evening he went home to be with his heavenly Father.
He will be sorely missed by his 5 children and 9 grandchildren, together with many others worldwide whose lives he touched and enriched during his full and varied life.
