| The other two boys were way off... |
The route was long, the track was rocky, and by about 2 miles in more than one of us had had enough. But that's the problem with going in a one-way loop!
The three boys though, they loved it. They loved the rolling hills, they loved the steep downhills, they loved the berms and the pump track and the skills area. The only bit they didn't love was the long, rocky, uphill about 3 miles in when the sun came out and we were all sweltering. But then it was back to downhills and more rolling hills and more berms and they were happy again.
My bike was ace at all the uphills and I really enjoyed going through the pine forests and even picking up a bit of speed (when I wasn't bringing up the rear and on my breaks to not bash into the tentative girls), but a gravel bike is really not cut out for the rocky trails. Still, a lesson was learned by all that day (i.e. who will go MTB in a few weeks time when we're down in the Borders and who will not!) and fun was most definitely had. (Even if it was only when eating the ice cream at the end.)
