Expecting to Fly

Those poor girls.... they've learned all about the joys frustrations of international flights this weekend.

They pitched up at Aberdeen Airport at 9:45am to take their pre-departure Antigen tests (having discovered just yesterday that they can get a COVID Recovery Pass QR code on their mobiles which helps in a whole host of ways in France - thanks to a total chance comment to AunTia in one of her meetings on Thursday). They passed the test with flying colours, got through security without too many problems, enjoyed a mid-morning cuppa and fine piece, and found out their plane was gonna be slightly delayed from it's 1pm departure time. They finally got on their plane, pulled away from the terminal, then were told that the problem that had made the plane slightly delayed in the first place had not actually been fixed and that they'd have to return to the terminal.  So they returned to the terminal, ate their packed lunch (which they were keeping for the 2 hour flight to Geneva) and consequently found out the plane was now not going to depart till about 6:30 or 7 in the evening, which basically meant missing every train connection they needed to get to the Alps that evening and spending the entire day in the airport.

So they whiled away some hours, ate another meal courtesy of some food vouchers, whiled away a few more hours, and finally taxied to the runway at around the time Scotland beat England in the rugby.  They know that because the whole plane broke out in a cheer. Though maybe that was just because they were finally taking off...

Anyway, after a night in Geneva, a new pile of train tickets and a missed day of ski lessons, they eventually made it to their home-away-from-home, family-away-from-family, and a week of skiing on powdery snow and under brilliant blue skies.

Just as well it's not just about the journey but the destination!
