You can try and plan family gatherings months and years in advance, to celebrate special occasions and birthdays and anniversaries, but sometimes it's just a case of everyone being in the right place at the right time, with the right hosts (and okay, usually with at least some reason to gather together).
Trying to get a photo with all the kids in it, though, that's just plain ole luck - or not!
