But all good things must come to an end, and finally it was time to say goodbye to our wonderful hosts and our home away from home, and begin our long journey back north...
...where the channel tunnel sucked us in and chucked us back out in the UK half an hour later. I mean it was quick - and Zach was thrilled - but was not quite as picturesque or as relaxing or gave as much of a 'break' as the ferry!
After a night in Folkestone where Tiger managed to lose her super huge whale Orcy (in the Holiday Inn if anyone happens to pass and wants to pick it up and then post it on to us?!?) we then lost Tiger to the DTI youth festival in Stafford.
So it was only five of us who finished the journey (though a different five than those that started - which probably says more about teenagers than anything else!) by stopping off in Newcastle-under-Lyme to see some of our oldest and dearest relatives on the other side. There is just so much history still to find out and so many stories still to hear but so few opportunities to properly stop and chat. We love each and every time that we do.
And so finally, after almost 3,000 miles driven and 200km cycled we arrived back home, done for another year. Or, I suppose, for 11 weeks at least...
