Sadly - also not sadly - it was in Aberdeen this year so we didn't need to make the trek to Tollcross or, thankfully, East Kilbryde where it's been held the last few years - though Aberdeen is a bit boring for a national competition for the kids who are used to swimming here. Also more sadly, at least for the boys, the joy of having a day off school when everyone else was in school was not to be as the 'storm' that was hitting Scotland meant all schools across the City and Shire were closed. A definite storm in a teacup it was here, but hey ho!
Anyway, first up was Joey with the exact same swim that Toots did six years before him - 50m back in the 12 and under category - he's in lane 6:
After the morning session Toots had grand plans to jump on a bus into town and catch another bus home to carry on with some studying, except buses were cancelled. As were trains. So Toots and Joey braved the gale and walked into town (anything to not spend more time in a pool than they have to!), only to be rescued by Grandma and given lunch, before being dropped back at the pool in time for Lightning's final swim.
Next up in the session was Toots, in Lane 9:
After the morning session Toots had grand plans to jump on a bus into town and catch another bus home to carry on with some studying, except buses were cancelled. As were trains. So Toots and Joey braved the gale and walked into town (anything to not spend more time in a pool than they have to!), only to be rescued by Grandma and given lunch, before being dropped back at the pool in time for Lightning's final swim.
After lunch Lightning swam 200 Back in Lane 2:
And then 100 Breast in Lane 6:
None of them were fast enough to win medals - though they never expected to be; it is, after all, all about the hoody!
And the day off school... Which also isn't as exciting when you're 17 and have to take a prelim early to compete!
