We were sensible this year though and did actually take two cars up to Glenmore. The Don, boys and I headed up on Thursday to strike camp, while Toots came across Friday morning (after working her shift the night before) and picked up Tiger, who had just bussed in from her CYC camp at Faskally, on route.
By the time the girls joined us we'd already bought and pitched another 'shelter' to protect us from the midges - and thankfully from the rain that came during the following few days!
Not many photos were taken - partly because we've been here loads and I didn't think about taking them, and partly because in some ways we didn't get up to much, and then some of the bigger things we did get up to we didn't photograph! Ach well...
I have to say, Mr Tom was an absolute super star. I mean he was also a pest because if he wasn't on the lead he would wander off and say hello to anybody and everybody and refuse to come back, and when he was on the long lead he'd continously get wrapped around our chairs, tables and tents, and then he wouldn't pee or poo on demand and sometimes went an unhealthily long time between businesses, but then when he did poop it was in the tall grass and he'd come back to us with at least one tick every single time. But other than that, he was a star. He slept in the middle of the tent without his cage all night long without stirring, and after he did wake up at his normal not too early time to do his business, I have to admit I let him come into the sleeping pods and lie on top of whoever would have him. Maybe not the GD way, but we are on holiday and we all needed another hour of sleep!
Day 1: far too windy down at the loch, but not enough wind back at camp to chase the pesty midges away
Day 2: probably should have gone into the loch that afternoon, but ended up being far too lazy and far too late, and also it was still pretty windy, though there were spells of gorgeous sun
First real test of water... not a huge fan. Yet
Day 3: a cycle down to Loch an Eilein for a walk with the Chirns, then lunch at Rothimurchus. Best of the weather by far so plans to suit up and get down to the loch asap
An epic attempt made (apparently the loch was actually really warm!) but the weather moved in and chased us back to the tent. EVERYone was very wet.
We think we'll stick with June (three for three cracking weather weekends!) for camping next year.
