Frontier City

On the second of our Texan-towns-within-two-hours road trips we headed East along the I-20 towards Abilene and the great frontier.  Frequently called the 'buckle of the Bible Belt', Abilene is about half way between Midland and Fort Worth and a town where cowboys actually ride their horses to the diner for dinner.  No joke, we saw one 'park' his steed the first night.

First stop naturally was FrontierTexas! which made 100 years of frontier history (1780-1880) surprisingly interesting and interactive.  Lifesize holograms, a buffalo stampede and the appearance of a Comanche Indian Chief not only scared Toots, Tiger and even Lightning, but started 48 hours of questions about Indians, 'whites' (didn't actually know what to call them, even after reading all the info), why they were fighting, who burned down the houses, who was good and who was bad and why.  Which are surprisingly tricky questions to answer so a two and three year old can understand!
