Anklebiters

Which explains it!

However, I have noticed that there is a difference between US mosquitoes and their European equivalent - namely the first likes me and the other favours the Don.

Once again he was bitten from head to toe while we were in France, with one swelling up his arm and many forming boils on his ankles, while I remained largely unscathed.  And just last weekend he ended up needing an out-of-hours emergency doctor's appointment because a new Scottish midge bite, received Friday evening as we were sitting out enjoying a glass of wine, had grown to a boil the size of a penny and had swollen his leg and ankle so large that it looked like a tree-trunk.  Some antibiotics and the swelling went down pretty quickly, but still... the poor boy doesn't react well to the beasties.
