Do you think having a hernia is hereditary? I mean in some ways being a physical weakness in the body it makes sense... and certainly seems to be playing out in this family. Not that I've ever had one myself. Or the Don.
Today we discovered that Tiger has a suspected hernia and will no doubt need surgery in the next couple of weeks. Toots had emergency hernia surgery at 8 weeks old when they suspected an ovary had protruded through the abdominal wall. Then Joey had his two hydrocele surgeries, which is basically in my understanding a hernia but with fluid coming and going and now bowel or whatever. And now Tiger has swelling in her groin. As excited as she was to visit the ER last time (and she really did perk up the minute the Don had her in the car) she doesn't seem to be keen this time, but perhaps that's just because she's losing her last-in-the-family-to-have-general-anaesthetic-and-stitches status.
Except first we need to make the forty minute trip downtown to the hospital for a consult with the pediatric surgeon (which incidently is the same one Joey had). Then it'll be a day for surgery and at least two five-minute follow ups which don't really justify the two hours drive/wait times required for each. Which is what we really need to add to this increasingly hectic eight-week run up to Christmas in which we'll have three, potentially four, more family members visiting. Not that they are making it hectic per se (we're looking forward to each and every one of you!), but you know what I mean.
