Behind Closed Doors

Today was also Doors Open Day in Aberdeen.

Doors Open Day is Scotland’s largest free festival that celebrates heritage and the built environment. It offers free access to over a thousand venues across the country throughout September, every year. The aim of Doors Open Day is to ensure that Scotland’s built heritage, new and old, is made accessible and this year 48 buildings in Aberdeen City had their doors open to the public, and for the first time ever, we made it to one.

Central Fire Station is one of four fire stations located within Aberdeen City.  The station was opened in 1998 and further converted in 2016 to house the Aberdeen City LSO HQ.

Though nothing could beat the last experience these kids had (in Midland) with a fire engine, there were plenty of hand-on activities, and we enjoyed the interesting tour of the buildings and grounds.  We even saw two of the engines go out on a call which I think excited the boys the most!  That and the candy floss...
