...and two new (to the blog) friends to play with:
And oh, no hot water.
That's right, the latest fun here in Casa Boyd includes a leaky gas pipe, which meant an emergency call to the gas man who came and cut off the gas this morning, then a call to our house protection insurance type people for a plumber to come round and change the pipe, who then tells us that if we'd called him first he could have temporarily fixed the pipe till the parts came in on Monday and we wouldn't have lost service. Of course, once the parts are in the city inspector still has to come round to do some sort of check before the gas man will switch on the pipes again, and that's assuming it's just that one part that's corroded and not the whole length of underground pipe between the entrance to the house and the cut-off switch at the back fence. Which means no hot water/heating/air conditioning till it's all sorted.
Which is even more annoying because we've smelt a hint of gas in the street for the last month and didn't really think that much of it (though it was only last night the Don actually heard the hissing by our house)...
Anyway, it all made cleaning the five kiddos kinda tricky, particularly since they were covered in dust, dirt, leaves, grass and blue chalk paint (that's chalk dipped in water if you didn't know) which they used to create a 'sea'. Essential for the pirates to walk off the plank. And who'd have known that blue chalk paint seems to permanently stain pale little bottoms, legs, knees, hands and nails? Not their mothers, that's for sure!
