Knocking Round the Zoo

Bright and early Saturday we made it to the Zoo (almost) by opening time, and that was even after enjoying some infamous Curtis hash and cinnamon sugar muffins.  No starting the day on an empty stomach in San Antonio (it was nice!).

San Antonio Zoo has over 9,000 animals representing 750 species.  It began in 1914 when Colonel George Washington Brackenridge placed bison, deer, monkeys, lions and bears on land he had deeded to the city, now known as Brackenridge Park.  The Zoo also opened two of the first cageless exhibits in America in November 1929.

Even when the rain fell it was still pretty pleasant.  I mean apart from my hair going wavy, rain ain't that bad in a warm place.

 

Those sock-ons sure come in handy! 

The early start, though, meant an early lunch and by early afternoon we were all done in.  Just time to say goodbye and start the long drive home...

Great friends, great break, great memories.  I'm so looking forward to sending Lightning to this home away from home when he's sixteen and looking for a summer job.  Might as well get some use out of his US citizenship!
