This morning Joe had a follow up with the urologist who, after more prodding and poking, concluded that the lump we saw was a type of communicating hydrocele which seems to be a bit like a hernia, except with fluid rather than bowel or whatever protruding. I guess it also explains why the lump seemed to disappear after he was prodded and poked by at least six different doctors and nurses, but came back when no one was disturbing him. The urologist advised getting it removed since it was an obvious lump and not just a swelling of the whole area, so that'll be a day surgery for Joey when we get back from our travels. Something to look forward to, I guess!
Apart from all that, life, and the hectic last week of school, continued...
On Monday morning we attended the Lower School Awards Ceremony. Toots received an award for science, which was based as much on character and attitude in the classroom as aptitude in the subject. She has loved science this year, and I love that she now enjoys picking up and examining the bugs and beasties that sometimes make it in to our house, rather than running away from them as she would have done last year, leaving them for Tiger to deal with.
She also received a certificate for completing the Chaplain's Challenge, which was to read 52 bible story books over the course of the school year.
Following the ceremony the kids took part in their Field Day, where pictures definitely speak louder than words:
On Wednesday we managed to juggle finding out Joey would need to stay in hospital for another 24 hours, the 11am school pick up run, an unruly toddler, a trip home for a shower and change of clothes, and Toots's classroom awards. She was awarded 'Neatest Worker' by her classmates, a 'Lifesaver Award: always helping those in need' by her teacher, came second in the Radical Reader Awards for reading the most books (or at least recording the second highest amount in her Reading folder: I'm sure all the kids read a whole bunch more than the mum's ever recorded), and an award for Outstanding Performance and Excellence in Classroom Behaviour. Phew.
And today...
ALL DONE! No more school for twelve glorious weeks.
Whatever shall we do...?
