Don't know whether to smile or cry...
What I am smiling about, is that we're not flying via DFW *big sigh of relief*. Instead we are catching United to IAH and then taking Emirates in to Dubai (which is about an hour and a half from our house, rather than the fifteen minutes it takes to get from Abu Dhabi International). But Etihad decided to increase their prices from $7000+ to $18,000+!! on Monday so that route was out. And actually, it works out better, because wonderful Emirates have a baggage delivery service, so our fourteen or whatever bags can get from the airport to our house without the four taxis, or three return trips, or whatever we'd have had to do from AUH.
I was even wished a Happy Belated Birthday, when I called up Emirates to confirm a few things after the booking. Now that's service.
Of course, on the downside neither Emirates nor Etihad recognise MAF as a destination/start point which means we are still going to have to pick up all those bags in IAH, take them to the International Terminal, then re-check them all back in. But still, that's what porters are for, right?
