And speaking of National Heritage, today is the start of a three-day public holiday here in the UAE in celebration of National Day and Martyrs Day. National Day is celebrated each year on 2nd and 3rd December to mark the federal unification of the seven emirates. Martrys' Day was introduced just this year to salute the martyrdom of Emirati heroes who lost their lives defending the sovereignty of the nation. It recognises the sacrifices and dedication of Emirati martyrs who have given their lives in the UAE and abroad in the field of civil, military and humanitarian services, and though technically falls on 30th November each year, the public holiday will be 1st December to fall in with National Day Celebration.
We are just enjoying the three extra days off school and work!
